  • The council’s next “Day of Dialogue” will be held Sept. 28 at Gibbs High in St. Petersburg, but the event will have a regional flavor.
  • “The African-American community has some of the worst father involvement of any race.”
  • Organizers of the Day of Dialogue purposely scheduled the St. Petersburg event on Dads Take Your Child to School Day, a state Department of Education initiative.
  • Two years ago the council studied the impact of father involvement on improving the graduation of black male students in Florida and submitted its findings to the state.

In 2006, the Florida Legislature created a new public board with a mission: research the conditions plaguing black males and come up with ideas to improve their quality of life.
