Preseason football: Hudson 24, Springstead 13

  • Hudson’s defense showed discipline when Springstead went to its regular option attack and when it deviated with more a spread out look.
  • Wright looked for a quick screen to Randy Morgan but a terrific interception from 6-foot-3, 300-pound Oshea Spahr was returned 7 yards for the opening score.
  • … Starting with the early interception, Wright (4-of-14 for 31 yards, two interceptions) struggled, although he did some damage on the ground.
  • Doran tossed a bomb to Dominick Rutigliano for 44 yards.
  • Rutigliano finished with two catches for 57 yards and one carry for 13 yards.

SPRING HILL — After showing off a new, more potent offense in the spring, there were some hiccups from Springstead in its preseason classic game on Friday night against Hudson. Jordan Wright never found his groove in the passing game, and the Hudson defense refused to allow the big play to Eagles receivers. On the other side, Fivay transfer Cyler Doran looked sharp leading the Cobra attack, breathing new life into an offense that lost multiple 1,000-yard rushers (Nate Munson and Billy Werner) to graduation.
