ST. PETERSBURG — An Uber driver punched his passenger during a fight, police said, leaving the man fighting for his life.

Driver Kabir O’Farril Diaz, 38, picked up Terry Lynn Kimball, 56, about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, according to St. Petersburg police. The two men got into an argument about the route Diaz was taking, so he pulled into the Quick Pick Foods store at 500 58th St. N near St. Petersburg Catholic High School. That’s where they began fighting.

During the altercation, Diaz punched Kimball, who lost consciousness and didn’t regain it. He was taken to a hospital with “serious brain trauma,” officers said, and his injuries could be life threatening.

Diaz was cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police said. He has not been charged.
