@stuckinthe80s: “Midnight Oil reunites, plots 2017 worldwide tour”

Forget about the odd fact that your beds are burning. How can sleep knowing Midnight Oil is reuniting? “We wanted you to be the first to know that the five of us are planning to do some gigs in Australia and overseas during 2017,” the Aussie band wrote in a Facebook post this week. “It will probably be at least the end of this year before we know exactly where or when – but if you want to be first to hear about any dates, head over to bit.ly/MidnightOilMailingList and sign up to the mailing list. You can grab your free download of Forgotten Years live from Canberra while you’re there and catch up on some other big news too. Hope to see you soon … from Bones, Jim, Martin, Peter and Rob.” Frontman Peter Garrett, whose music career took a pause last decade so he could serve in a couple high profile roles in Australia’s government, also is working on a solo album, according to Billboard.com. Midnight Oil formed back in 1972 (under the name Farm) and though they did make a dent in the U.S. charts, they are most beloved in their homeland thanks to songs that are very politically charged. (Beds Are Burning, for example, was a tune in support of returning lands back to the Pintupi people.) The band broke up in 2002 but has occasionally reunited for benefit concerts.
