  • Critics wonder if employers will simply offset all costs by cutting base salaries, but reports from the EPI and the Brookings Institute expect most workers to still come out ahead.
  • But the rule was not tied to inflation, so over the years a shrinking share of workers became eligible.

Millions of workers nationwide — and hundreds of thousands in Florida — will soon benefit from a new overtime pay rule. The Labor Department last week doubled the threshold for salaried workers eligible for overtime pay, granting more employees the opportunity to earn time-and-a-half and reasonably adjusting an outdated policy.
