‘All Clear’ given after Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina catches fire

#BREAKING: 3-alarm fire at Tampa Marriott Waterside under control, @TampaFireRescue says.

  • Tampa Fire Rescue said everyone was safe following a three-alarm fire Thursday night at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina.
  • Firefighters arrived and were able to quickly put out the fire with water.
  • The fire was contained to a small area of the roof and was under control by 8:36.
  • Workers attempted to put out the fire with extinguishers but were unsuccessful.

The flames, which sparked at 8:11 p.m., were completely under control by 8:40 p.m.

The flames, which sparked at 8:11 p.m., were completely under control by 8:40 p.m.

Onlookers said a loud explosion-like sound could be heard, followed by first-responder sirens.  

According to Tampa Fire Rescue, the flames were related to construction work being done at the hotel:

Workers had performed roof work earlier in the day and debris from the removal ignited and caused a fire on the roof. Workers attempted to put out the fire with extinguishers but were unsuccessful. Firefighters arrived and were able to quickly put out the fire with water. The fire was contained to a small area of the roof and was under control by 8:36.

All guests were allowed to return to their rooms at 9:20 p.m. No one was reported injured.
